University of California Professional Development Institute (UCPDI) is a recognized leader in the development and implementation of standards-based professional development with an emphasis on meeting the needs of English language learners in urban and rural districts.
Support for English Learners
California has the largest percentage of English learners in the nation, Twenty four percent of K-12 students, approximately 1.5 million, are English Learners (CDE 2011). UCPDI provides teachers with interactive instruction in order to assist them in teaching English learners to achieve high levels of English language proficiency and mastery of California academic content standards, especially in English/language arts and mathematics.

UCPDI is partnering with Los Angeles Unified School District on a three-year, three million dollar CaMSP Grant entitled "Preparing for Success in Algebra." The grant is aimed at providing professional development for one hundred 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade teachers in Los Angeles Unified School District, Local District 6. Visit the CaMSP Website
UCPDI received a California Postsecondary Education Commission (CPEC) Improving Teacher Quality Grant entitled "Access to the Core." Access to the Core is a four-year partnership with Los Angeles Unified School District, Local District 6.
